it’s not me playing the martyr in the least when i say i’m not very good at taking care of myself.

taking care of others? aces. but i’ll ignore a cough and a bothersome achilles for more than six weeks before i get it checked out.

this is not my best side. that side that i do tend to take care of, the in toto superficial one, is the one that, well, you can plainly see.

diana vreeland said that she loathed narcissism, but approved of vanity – and i’ve never been too proud to admit to the latter – and you wouldn’t need to go very far to see it for yourself; my vanity extends itself to the cupboards and shelves of my bathroom, and it’s very quickly slowly running out of space.

selling a salve to ease an oil slick of a nose, i’ll sign up. that tonic will ease the fog of frizz that august’s mugginess imbues on my hair – i’ll get two. that perfect balm comes in four shades? let me get my pocket book. please, trust that i’m not naive, a possible easy target, but i know what it is that i’m doing as i continue to stock up. because what is vanity after all, but just a little bit of humility poking through your, (okay, my) armour?
