it’s been months now. perhaps a year since i’ve taken a photo of my manicure.
it just seemed like the right thing to (not) do. not to disparage one’s nail art, but i just had to get out of the game – it was just too much: the polka dots, the shimmer, the ironic odes to tropical drinks and teddy bears stuck to fingers, rendering all digits useless. it had gone too far and honestly, an accent nail was as far as i could take it.
this is not to say that i’ve abandoned my years-long obsession with nail varnish – it’s just not as fervent as it used to be. i quietly get my nails done, show them to no one, and take absolutely no photos. i just think a bit of privacy in these tell-all times is the dignified thing to do.
