“you have taken fester and turned him into your personal love slave. i respect that. but debbie (gesturing at the decor around her)…PASTELS?” // a. huston as m. adams

though i’m fairly known for my black-hearted wardrobe, if you know me well, you know that my heart is actually more akin to a rainbow.

i laugh with gusto, i like with grand brio, and love, well, i love BIG, really big. like whoa. my appreciation for life is keenly focussed on the practice of zeal and moderate, if-not-a-wee-bit-cynical, enthusiasm.

which means that opposing my intense dark side, there is this strange little part of me, perhaps it resides in my pinky finger, but still – it’s there. give me bubblegum, jem and the holograms and a touch of airiness – give me a little bit of pastel, or give me death.

(see what i did there?)

“i never wore a studded leather jacket, y’know. ne-va!” // j. lydon

and that’s probably the only thing johnny rotten and i have in common. that, and maybe that i like one sex pistols song. (johnny for sure thought they were all awesome.)

i’ve traveled long and far maintaining that a leather jacket just wasn’t for me; and then i caught up with three years ago – and the feminine-slash-rockabilly style of pairing a well-worn moto-jacket with a full skirt and a pair of heels or, (let’s be realistic), a smock dress and a pair chucks – and a well-timed voilà, and you’re set. there’s just something about adding a jolt of thug to an otherwise ladylike frame of mind.

i know i’m rather late to this game, but at least i finally made it.

“i grew up in europe, where the history comes from.” // e. izzard

the catwalks that truly catch my fancy are the ones that end up way over on stage right; across the pond and over the pontes

i’d hazard that i could stop there and forego traveling over to france for the next week of fashion-many-weeks, but for now, revel in gorgeousness from london and milan. while there, fetch a few (dozen) panzerotti from luini for me and i’ll forget all about the fashion…

“the sharp thorn often produces delicate roses.” // ovid

as i’d like to think that what i do here is rather more introspective than its one-dimensional veneer might seemingly suggest – (though i am 100% for wild-with-abandon-rampant-consumerism), i know that sometimes my intent and what comes out, aren’t always simpatico.

i do have a habit of blathering on, of making mention of big hair and big shoes; of a wardrobe that may or may not need searchlights to eek out a discernible silhouette, and of a pair of hips that require the sort of attention that only a dress can address. if the surface of things scream ‘more is more’, it’s only because once and a while, we use what we can to bolster that sliver of confidence that resides in those small, and relatively shy corners of our minds.

however, as time keeps reminding me of its quick clip, i’m sussing out that there is also strength to be found in being somewhat delicate.

just don’t get too close, i might poke your eye out.

“it has long been an axiom of mine that the little things are infinitely the most important.” // a.c. doyle

i’ve noticed lately, that my face has begun to ache from nerves-being-shot-induced-jaw-clenching, and that i’m getting the opposite of laugh-lines – as my mouth has been stuck in a sneer for a bit too long.

to be completely blunt, you wouldn’t want to bump into me in a dimly-lit alley – i’m in a sour space, and i’m hoping, for everyone’s sake that it’ll abate soon – because i’m fairly tired of being sick and tired.

why yes, yes I AM at my personal best right now, why do you ask?

until that day, that day when not every single thing aggravates me, i’ll be thankful for the little things; gratitude, even in small doses can make all things pear-shaped, seem as straight as an arrow…
