“the golden rule is that there are no golden rules.” // g. b. shaw

my ears were pierced when i was rather young.

it was the thing to do, again – it was the 80s. they were small drop earrings, with dollops of gold, that hung below my earlobes. if you’re picturing a sophisticate of a first grader, yes – that was me.

i didn’t wear gold again for roughly twenty years. (TWENTY. YEARS. just saying that makes me want to take my teeth out, and slurp a bowl of clear soup.) the gilded seemed to me to be rather conservative, old-fashioned, a bore. and goodness knows, being a bore was a more frightening thought than freddy krueger moving down the hall.

obviously, horizons have broadened, age has brought with it a soupçon of wisdom, and my eyes have been opened – and gold, gold is good.
