“make new friends, but keep the old; those are silver, these are gold.” // j. parry
i’m not saying that i’ve outgrown the bright white of silver, nor am i about to leave it all behind; yet, i am willing to admit that perhaps in my own small way, i’ve finally seen the merit in threads of gold.
i’m not leaving silver by the wayside, not a bit. my bits and baubles, my bracelets and charms – i’ll always have a soft spot for those little things that keep their shine for only the shortest of whiles, then show their wear in the most nostalgic of ways. i feel a certain kinship to silver; a little rough around the edges, but character builds with every scrape and thud against a table.
and yet, the virtues of gold are not lost on me. it is a spark in the dark, a small bit of soft everlasting – it can be buried in dirt for centuries on end, and yet the glint will still catch your eye. therein lies its charm – it shines on.
