“confusion is a word we have invented for an order which is not understood.” // h. miller

it was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was cold, then not, humid, then not; heating is being forced on high, and i’m feeling like i’ve been wrapped in cling film and forced to sit in a car wash.

to make it plain – i have no idea what i’m meant to wear. too cold yet for spring, too warm already for winter wools, i’m making a case for layers, a million millefeuilles that i’m able to peel off and put back on whenever the need strikes.

march you’ve become confused, a temperamental little bitch and you’ve begun to drive me up my very own sweaty walls.

“i had a dream that I was awake and i woke up to find myself asleep.” // s. laurel

i’ve been having trouble sleeping.

i’m dead tired, but walking; i’m bone-weary, but still making a go of it. considering i have very little choice in the matter, because you know, “ob-la-di ob-la-da life goes on,” but let’s be clear here, i’m not firing on all cylinders.

i think i’ve worn the same two outfits, (washed, mind), over the last ten days, because i’ve got enough gusto to get myself ready, but i don’t have the energy to muster any creativity when it comes to my wardrobe – if it fits, it’s warm enough, it doesn’t ride, hitch, or itch? perfect. i’m putting it on and wearing it until the sun goes down and i too, am able to wind down. and though i wouldn’t dare be seen in what i wear to bed, there’s nothing i’d rather roll into when i get out of it in the morning, than something that looks like i could wear to roll back into bed at the end of my sleep-deprived day.

“we live not according to reason, but according to fashion.” // seneca

ladies and gentlemen, we have reached peak fashion.

there doesn’t seem to be any month, any week, or any day now that does not include a new collection, by any and all designers, for any and all use, for any and all times of the year. there is fashion every day, in every way.

the output of new has reached an almost comical, and yet wholly staggering, level. who can process this much? how does the design process actually work? how are there enough of hours in a day, days in a week, weeks in a month, that could allow for this much output? can the demand actually necessitate such a supply?

there aren’t enough hours in a day, days in a week, weeks in a month, and months in a year to ever get close enough to process it all.

then i sigh, reign my astonishment in, and wait for next week’s collections to arrive.

“and let’s be red with mirth.” // shakespeare

oh, the joy.

it’s not enough that i have to monitor my hairline for that halo of grey that creeps in every 42 days, my eyes for the landing of crows; and my chin for errant hairs that foretells a future that begs for the sweet release of eternal sleep, or barring that, an industrial strength laser at my bedside.

but now? now – i have to deal with the reality of a rosy glow amped up to 14 on the dial – a rosy glow that becomes electric light without any provocation and burns red with a fiery heat.

i didn’t need the derm to tell me that i had rosacea, i just wanted some small bit of justification for the products that i had already begun to use; those in tandem with the regimen that had previously taken me roughly 10 years to perfect.

oh, i can tell that the next phase of life is going to be a gas. strap yourselves in, kids – it’s going to get bumpy.

“every woman should have a purse of her own.” // s.b. anthony

there’s always something to carry.

there are groceries to haul, the girl’s lunch to tote; my wallet is a continental – so named as it spans the distance of a small country within the one i currently reside; and that too, needs a hand.

i’m one of those – one of those who adds insult to injury you could say, wherein the bag i currently carry, acts as mother doll to a nesting set of matryoshkas. the contents then put into smaller versions of themselves – my bag is the very definition of meta. they reference each other, with a wink and a nod; a bag within a bag, within a bag. you go on and tell two friends and let’s see where this all ends up.

that’s why, whenever i take a shine for another – it’s not the more the merrier, but go big or go home.
