“i don’t know anything about life, but everything about cinema.” // r. schneider

cinematic, other-worldly, lush & gorgeous – photos don’t always do these things justice.

“don’t leave a piece of jewelry at his house so you can go back and get it later; he may be with his real girlfriend.” // a. sedaris

all things considered –  you’d think i’d be a little less interested in a shiny bit of tat and a bit more attentive to those more heady, substantial bits of glimmer; ones you can try and sink your teeth into, or check their authenticity by attempting to get them to cut glass. but, as you’ve gleaned, i’m an equal opportunist when it comes to bits and baubles.

i know the difference between a bit of fun, and an heirloom of possibility; one that spent years lying underneath the earth’s mantle – but sometimes, you just don’t want that weight pressing down on you and instead opt for some gorgeous fling that’ll fall off after the fun’s all done.

“take, if you must, this little bag of dreams, unloose the cord, and they will wrap you round.” // w.b. yeats

what is it that they say? t’is the season – that’s it, right?

the holiday parties, both personal and corporate – the onslaught has begun, and truth be known, i don’t mind.

my list of fêtes is rather short, mostly because i’ve chosen to opt out, but once a year, it’s rather a gas to turn on the charm, put on the varnish, gloss myself up and head out the door to a party whose numbers top out somewhere near the 600 mark. it’s fun to turn the volume up to 11, to be the shiniest, most charmingest version of yourself, and become fizzy with wit. i’m pretty good at it.

of course, the dress-code is rather open to interpretation – and i’ll forever side with my version of black-tie-light, be sure to put comfort first, wear a black dress, have my accessories do most of the heavy lifitng, and make my clutch the belle of the ball.

“it is the loose ends with which men hang themselves.”//

it’s been months since i felt like when i finished something, that there wasn’t anything waiting, just in some hazy middle-distance, waiting on me to get to it – and to make it snappy.

there’s been this constant run of hurdles, these dangling participles, of when one thing gets crossed off, there’s just one more thing, one more wafer-thin mint of a headache to parse.

it’s all right. it’s not a whinge, it’s a statement of fact. and once more unto the breach, i’ll muddle through. i’d just rather do it with a pretty little flounce, a formidable end – following behind me.
